Shell Gas Card's Additional Info
•
If you are approved for the Card, you will be automatically enrolled in the Fuel Rewards® program and receive instant Gold Status.
The Shell Gas Card has a $0 annual fee and offers rebates of 10 cents to 30 cents per gallon, up to 20 gallons per fill-up, every time cardholders get gas at a Shell station. Cardholders also get a 10% rebate on the first $1,200 in non-fuel Shell purchases per year. Plus, the Shell Gas Card also requires just fair credit for approval. That’s the good news.
The not-so-good news is the Shell Gas Card can only be used to make Shell purchases. That is in direct contrast to the Shell Mastercard Credit Card, which requires at least good credit for approval, rewards users with at least 1% back wherever Mastercard is accepted, and gives up to 2% back on dining and groceries.
But if you only want a credit card for Shell spending, that shouldn’t be a big deal. Keep reading below to learn more about whether a Shell Gas Card is right for you.
Shell Gas Card Review Highlights:
Extra savings promotion. For a limited time, newly approved cardholders will earn a rebate of 30 cents per gallon, on up to 35 gallons, for each of the first five Shell fill-ups paid for with the Shell Gas Card.
10 cents off every gallon. The Shell Gas Card’s standard rebate is 10 cents per gallon, up to 20 gallons per fill-up. That’s about 4% cash back when gas costs $2.50 per gallon. For context, the market’s best gas rewards cards offer 5% back on gas purchased at any station. And the best general-purpose rewards card for people with fair credit, Capital One QuicksilverOne, offers 1.5% cash back on all purchases.
No annual fee. Gas station-affiliated credit cards don’t tend to charge annual fees, so you shouldn’t overstate the importance of this particular feature. With that being said, the Shell Card’s lack of an annual fee does make it about $21.5 per year cheaper than the average credit card, market-wide.
Very high APR. The average credit card for someone with fair credit has a 25.77% regular APR, according to WalletHub research, while the average card offer overall charges about 22.39%. This paints the Shell Card’s APR in a decidedly negative light, illustrating why carrying a balance from month to month would be a big mistake.
Requires fair credit or better. This is the standard credit requirement for store credit cards. It also means the Shell Gas Card is easier to get than the Shell Credit Card, which requires good credit or better. You can check your credit score for free on WalletHub to see which offer you’re likely to get approved for.
Finally, it’s important to remember that there are plenty of ways to save money on gas that don’t involve a Shell rewards card. For starters, most other gas station chains have their own rewards cards, which are at least worth considering if you aren’t totally committed to Shell. You should also check out cards offering gas rewards at any station as well as those with especially lucrative rewards on other everyday expenses. After all, your total savings are what really matter, not how much you save on gas in particular.

We applied for the Shell Fuel Rewards issued by Citi, The card came in the mail and we activated it. We filled up at the pump and went in the store to buy drinks and the card did not work.
We attempted to contact support and we reached a CSR who could not speak english well! We were told that Citi would contact us back about the issue. After waiting a few hours we contacted Citi again, The second CSR also could not speak english well and again we were told that Citi would contact us back.
We waited another 2 hours for Citi to contact us and called yet a third time and got a third CSR who did not speak english well and was told again to wait for someone to contact us. I requested to speak to a supervisor so we could close the account.
Amazingly enough the supervisor was able to send a text message with a OTP to identify us. The supervisor turned the card back on and acted like we were to keep the card. I requested again to close the account due to the fact that it was to much of a hassle to deal with support who does not speak english well and works against you every step of the way.
We have cards from other vendors who are a breeze to deal with! If this is how Citi works then count us out on all Citi services!

Getting the shell gas card is pointless because even though you get 10 cents off a gallon you pay the credit price which is 10 cents more a gallon than cash so what’s the point. It’s their card and they are charging you over 28% apr, the least they could do is charge you the cash price.

When you apply for a Shell Mastercard Gas Card, they immediately say congratulations you are approved showing a picture of the Shell Mastercard gas card. Then about three days later, you get an email stating that they are not issuing a Mastercard but instead a Shell gas card only. After doing a hard check on my credit and causing my good credit to go down to Fair credit, they refused to report that they just approved me for a Shell Gas Card. Then they lie about when they will report to the Credit Agencies, and then they do not mail the credit card. Its now been two weeks and no card. I call their customer service in a foreign country and they dont have a clue when I will get the card and they claim they mailed it. We dont have that bad of mail service in the US. So it is a lie when they try to blame the US Post Office. When or if the card does arrive, I will wait until it is reported on my credit report and my score goes up. Then I will think about not doing business with them.

This review is for the shell gift card of $500. Claim to be free if you pick the correct box. Well I pick the correct box and after answering 8 questions. They wanted my credit card to claim my free gas card by paying $2.50. I do not know about you, but this is not free if a consumer have to pay anything and secondly I think this is a scam because knownone should should have to give up their credit card information when they suppose to socall have win a gas card of $500. To my this is defraud of a person and talking advantage of the person with false intent to due so. Please pass this note on to other consumers

My problem is that consistently all the Shell stations in Middle Tennessee are owned by 2 companies one being Twice Daily and they charge 10 cents more per gallon than non-Shell stations. So when you use your 10 cents off per gallon Shell card it works out to the same price. We pay our card off at the end of each month so there is no advantage to using the Shell card.

Do not get a card with them. We've had our card since 1992. We miss one payment last month. The bill was lost. We paid it as soon as we got this last one. They suspended our card without notice. So we will be going with another card and we won't be spending any more with shell.

I have been a customer since 2011, pay my account in each month on time and in full. I received a letter, stating they have closed my account. Because My credit has dropped. Unbelievable how they would treat a customer with so little respect, that has been a paying customer for nor. 9 years

I got this card because it didn't come with the temptation of AUs to use everywhere like a Visa or MasterCard, but turns out you can't reliably use it at Shells either. More than half the time it just says "see cashier" and if you call the 800 number and spend 5 minutes going through the account info just to be told call back during normal business hours but they don't say when that is. I got through to a person once who put me on hold for 10 minutes and hung up on me, I call back again and they put me to the department to dispute an existing charge. The card is completely useless if it cannot be relied upon to get gas when I'm out. Maybe others' luck is better, but this card is total trash.

I have used Shell and Chevron gas credit cards for over 50 years. Last year. Chevron changed banks and doing business with them became a living nightmare. This year, Shell changed everything also. This week, we moved so we called Shell for an address change. The customer service person's English was so bad we couldn't understand him. He wanted my password, which I have never been given one. He then wanted my SS#, so I gave it to him. He then wanted my banking # and information, which I refused to give. I'm done with Shall. A 50 Yr. customer means nothing to them.

I travel frequently and every time I leave the state I have to call their rude customer service people and tell them I'm traveling, otherwise they put a stop on credit charged away from home. Total crap! stopped using it and went to Marathon. No problems. Goodbye Shell!

Exactly. This card is blocked at the pump every time I attempt to fuel up away from my home area and requires much time to contact the Fraud Dept to get it unlocked. This card is a complete waste of time. In fact, last time it was blocked at a gas station that I use regularly in the same town as my billing address. CITI Bank Fraud Department is out-of-control.
