We have had Country Financial for over 18 years, but something has changed. We have experienced nothing but problems with them throughout the year. We have auto-pay set up, and they have failed to take out our monthly premiums twice, even though we have had the same bank account for over 20 years. They have blamed us and have increased our rates. I no longer trust them, and we are looking for new insurance.

Country Financial sent me a refund for my homeowners insurance that I had canceled (the canceled policy is another story in itself). After several phone calls to Buddy Johnson (our Country Agent), our mortgage company, and directly to Country Financial, it was determined to deposit the refund directly into my checking account and then repay the shortfall in my escrow since I had obtained different insurance. One week later, I get a call from our bank informing us that Country placed a stop payment on our check because "a mistake was made." There was no phone call, text, or email—no communication. Now I'm stuck with bounced check fees and waiting for the corrected refund, which they claimed was sent on September 4. As of today, I have received nothing from these people who claim they can put a stop payment on this check, but "it could take up to a day or more to get the stop payment confirmation and then another three to four days before an ACH would hit my account." In other words, Country will prioritize their interests in a very short amount of time before taking any chances on losing their money. As long as this doesn't affect Country, it's all good. Bottom line—run from this operation. They will drain your bank and not think twice.

Country Financial is not easy to deal with in any way. They will lie to protect their insured. On July 6, 2025, a person insured by them hit my property after leaving a bar. It took us one week to track this person down. Finally, we knew who he was. I contacted Country Financial and the adjuster told me it would take a few days to get the police report, even though she already had it. I submitted the video identifying their insured. Weeks later, they claimed that they couldn't contact him for a statement. The claims manager lied and told me that the police department botched the report. I told the manager that their insured admitted to the police that he did, in fact, hit my property. The manager then says, "Well, if the police had that in their report, we could move forward with the claim." As soon as I got off the phone with the manager from claims, the police department called and said the report was supplemented and completed. In the report, it stated that their insured admitted to hitting my property and he was even charged with leaving the scene of an accident. They are still refusing to respond to me even though they have all evidence of his guilt. Now I'm being told that the claim is on hold until after their client's court appearance. Also, Country Financial told me they called him more than a dozen times, they sent him certified mail, they even sent an agent to his house, and he is not responding. It sounds to me as if this may have happened before. I don't feel this is acceptable.

Worst company I have had the pleasure of recommending. Had my daughter go with them and they have completely made her life a nightmare. People don't know what they are doing. Overcharging, taking money and saying she still owes and can't answer why.

Highly recommend not doing business with Tim Hankra's agency. He cost me thousands of dollars over the years by sitting back and collecting commissions after incorrectly quoting my home insurance policies. When I brought it to his attention, he said it was my fault. When I discontinued doing business with him, he mishandled that too by informing me that policies were canceled when, in fact, they were not because he failed to ensure all of my cancellation paperwork was signed. I wouldn't have given him one star if there had been the option. Buyer beware!

I have known and had the pleasure of working with Matthew Word for over 15 years. As an agent for Country Financial, he has always provided me with excellent customer service. He has always responded to my many questions within an hour. He is a great guy, and I have considered him the most competent, helpful agent ever. I have three properties and two cars insured with Country Financial. I had a major flood in my kitchen that required a total kitchen rebuild and the company is, as Matt has said. We are incredibly thankful that we found Matt. I would recommend him unconditionally to anyone. Give him a call and find out for yourself.

State fined me $100.00 for not having insurance, and that is how I found out I had no insurance for about two months. My rentals and residence had no protection. I had been with Country Financial ever since it was called Country Companies, which makes it almost 40 years, for my home, rental units, and my cars. I was never late that I remember and always made one payment for the entire term. They canceled my policy over $20.00. No calls from my agent; they say they sent the bill in the mail. I tried calling the supervisors a few times and left several messages. I never got a call back. If I could, I would give a negative 5-star rating.

Imagine being sent to collections for $41.37 after paying Country Financial monthly for 15 years! No phone call or email was received asking why we had not paid the bill that we thought was in error. We terminated our home and auto policies because the premiums were increased so high we could no longer afford them. I received a bill 2 days later and assumed it was a mistake. Then 30 days later, we found out we were sent to collections for less than $50. We paid this company for fifteen years! This is highly disturbing and I consider such business practices unethical. We do not recommend this company to anyone.

I was with Country Financial for many years to insure my car, house, and later started life insurance... all because they provide the best customer services such as my Representative, Darin Maddy, who definitely is one of the best agents; he's always been helpful and responsive. I felt "guilty" about switching my auto and home insurance to Costco's in order to save some money recently, which had nothing to do with him, even though he actually tried to help me lower my rates. The absolute worst company ever! I am nine months pregnant, high-risk, a single mom. I have two appointments a week, and my son is autistic. He is now unable to get to and from his therapies. They would not work with me for my rental because I was hit and the other car drove off. This is insane. Can't wait to cancel.

We changed auto insurance companies because Country Financial kept increasing our rates, charging us for dates not covered by them. When we tried to correct this issue, they said only our agent could change it. The problem is, our agent will not answer phone calls or respond to emails. If the name weren't so well-known, I would call this a disreputable company and tell you to stay away. They do not care if you are accident-free and have no tickets; they will still raise your rates every year.

Do not do bundles with this company! I made the mistake of bundling my home and car with a rental property. This worked fine for a couple of years... then they raised my premiums way above market on my car insurance. When I dropped them for car insurance, they then raised my homeowners insurance a whopping 50% in one year! They send the bills and take weeks to get back with answers about them, hoping to delay you from talking to other companies until it's too late and you have to pay to keep coverage.
They also put a claim on my car insurance record just for calling in and asking questions, so that when I went to other insurance companies, I would have to pay higher premiums. Completely illegal! I have had so much frustration with Country Companies. The country is not behind me; they are a pain in the backside. Turn around and run.
