The Macy’s Store Credit Card is a good card for people with fair credit or better (640+ credit score) who want to save on Macy’s purchases. It has a $0 annual fee, gives new cardholders up to $100 off their first purchases, and rewards all Macy’s spending with 2-5% back. You can also get free shipping and special discounts.
Both Macy’s credit cards give you a 30% discount on purchases made the same day account is opened, up to $100 saved. That savings limit is the only thing keeping this bonus from being truly spectacular.
Tiered rewards.
You will earn 2% to 5% back on Macy’s purchases, depending on your status level in the Macy’s loyalty program. Cardholders automatically qualify for Silver status, good for 2% back at Macy’s, among other perks. If you spend $500 in a calendar year and qualify for Gold status, you’ll get 3% back. And if you shell out $1,200 to earn Platinum status, you’ll get 5% back.
Those earning rates are quite good compared to what the average rewards card will give you. That said, the best store credit cards offer 5% back on purchases without a minimum spending requirement.
Extra savings opportunities.
Silver status entitles you to special savings offers with “Star Passes.” Gold status gets you Silver benefits plus free standard shipping on eligible Macy's purchases. Finally, Platinum status gives you Gold benefits plus more rewards. All cardholders also get perks like birthday presents and chances to earn bonus rewards.
The overall package is pretty good, but it isn’t the most transparent offer.

The Macy’s Card charges an interest rate that eclipses even the lofty average for a store card (33.13%) and blows away the average among all new credit card offers (22.11%), according to WalletHub’s latest Credit Card Landscape Report. And that means you should always pay your monthly bill in full. You will avoid interest charges that way.

I opened one of these cards right before I was stationed in a different state for the military. I had a charge on there just from opening it that they never told me about. Since I wasn't home, and I didn't have access to my phone or mail for long durations, that payment was late and destroyed my credit by over 200 points! I had someone write a check to pay the amount in full. When I got home, I filed for an appeal and explained the circumstances, but it was rejected. I filed again and was told they would fix it all, only to receive a letter saying my request was rejected. They got their money, yet they still decided to keep it on my record. It’s been a few years, and my credit score is still pretty badly affected. I wouldn't suggest this card simply because, after sending all the proof that I was on orders without access to my mail or phone and even being told it would change, they did nothing! No sympathy.

I have a Macy's American Express Credit card and have had it for several years. Recently, Citibank started handling Macy's accounts. Since then, it has been nothing but a total nightmare! I have one authorized user on my account, my daughter. I also have alerts set up on all of my cards, and Macy's is no exception.
A few months ago, I received new Macy's cards in the mail, although my cards weren't expired, nor did I request replacement cards. I was not sent any correspondence from Macy's as to why. When I called them, they stated that they were sending all cardholders new cards and to destroy the current cards. I did as instructed. However, now they are refusing to allow me to set up text and email alerts on both of my cards and state that I can only have alerts set up for one card. This prevents me from knowing what my daughter spends unless she tells me, or I log into my online account. This was not the issue before they mailed out the new cards.
I have called and been placed on hold for 30-45 minutes multiple times, only for the line to be answered and no one there. Today, I did get a representative in tech support, and she was extremely rude, telling me only one primary card can receive alerts. They have also not given me credit with their rewards program as agreed upon due to the second card on my account not being linked.
This seems dishonest, and the customer service is atrocious now. I will not be forced to close my account and lower my credit score due to their poor performance. I would like to report this concern and have the issue rectified. The tech support manager hung up the phone in my face because I continued to tell him that just months earlier, my daughter and I both received text and email alerts whenever either card was used by either of us. Macy's/Citibank cares nothing about my safety as they sent activated cards in the mail with no warning and refuse to honor their own alert system.

I have had a Macy's card since I got out of high school and was thrilled when I got approved for it. I have maintained a perfect account for 37 years and stuck with them as my favorite place to shop for my family during all that time. I got into some hard financial times around 20 years ago but paid off my card and never included it in bankruptcy, nor ever missed a payment. Last month they closed my account, out of the blue, for no reason and with no warning.
I think that was disgraceful and also disheartening, as I considered them a great partner as I rebuilt my credit and was very loyal to them despite the sky-high interest rates and their sneaky way of adding a $2.00 fee for interest even if you paid off your balance. I recommended everyone I could to shop there and get a card. None of that meant anything to Macy's as they callously shut down my account. It really damaged my credit, losing my oldest account for no reason, as I had a zero balance. I highly recommend you shop somewhere where you are more than a number and where your payment history with that company actually means something to them. I will never set foot in a Macy's again, and I hope that none of my fellow wallet hubbers ever do either.

Absolutely horrendous customer service. I was approved in-store both times (regular and Amex) and was never able to activate my card. Customer service is outsourced to India and the agents do not use their judgment, just following a predetermined script. It's been 2 years and they cannot verify my identity. I will never open a credit card with Macy's again.

Horrible customer service. The customer service number on the back is incorrect. It referred me to a second number, which was also incorrect. When I finally found the correct number to call, an additional 10 minutes were spent going through numerous prompts before finally speaking to a representative. Asking questions and repeatedly being put on hold, I was given misinformation again. Then, I was asked to take a satisfaction survey about my experience. That's 55 minutes I will never get back. Once my balance is paid, I will be cutting my card in half and discarding it.

The Worst Credit Card! I have been with Macy's since 1998 and never had a late payment. However, this month in September 2024, they decided to close my account based on a few late payments on other credit cards from last year. Macy's ruined my credit score which dropped by 23 points. Last year, when I ran into financial difficulty causing some late payments on other credit cards, they decided to reduce my $1,000 credit limit to $100. That's fine; you have lost a customer, and I will never shop at your store again. With Macy's being my oldest credit account, the closure negatively impacted my credit score. Having a $100 credit limit was an insult.

I have had a Lazarus/Macy's card for over 40 years. This new change, with going from a Macy's American Express card to one card, is ridiculous, and I will tell you why! My Macy's revolving card had a limit of $5800; years ago, for the limit outside of Macy's, I had them drop it to $1200, but Macy's lowered my outside limit to $600. The new card was going to be $600 instead of averaging the two cards. Credit doesn't matter; they are outside the US and don't care. My store was very upset since I had closed my accounts. Macys credit is the WORSE

Do not get this card! It is by far the worst credit card I've ever had. They charge interest on every little thing; the rewards are terrible and expire within a short time. I spent over $3,000 just to get $20 in rewards that could only be used in store, by the way, and I did not get to use them because they expired within 30 days, and nothing in the store is $20. I closed the account and do not care about not being able to reopen it again. There are far better credit cards available.

They have very tricky policies to ensure you do not receive the full 20% discount on purchases made with the new card, as the total discount is capped at $100. For example, they distribute the discount among all purchased items. Therefore, if, for example, you purchase three items and return one, they essentially subtract some of the total $100 utilized discount and do not apply the discount to the entire purchase. At the end of the day, you lose out.

As a loyal customer of 10 years, I've always paid my statements on time and, in many cases, in full. Recently, I failed to make a payment, assuming I had added them to my automated payment plan. I did receive a phone call from Macy's twice, but there was never anyone on the other end when I answered. I never received an email or text message, which led me to believe that the call was a scammer. I went online and discovered that I was actually 2 months behind in payments. I paid the delinquent debt in full. Unfortunately, Macy's had reduced my credit limit from $4,000 to $1,800, which caused my credit score to drop by 43 points. I called to complain, but the only response was that I could apply for a credit limit increase and they'd attempt to have my score corrected. Last week, I received two letters from Macy's. The first was denying my increase and the other was that they were unable to rectify my credit score. I closed both my Macy's and AMEX accounts and will never shop with them again. If this is how they treat their most loyal customers, I can't imagine how everyone else is treated.
