Don't deal with this company; I have had a claim since May 20, 2025. This company refuses to settle with me; they keep giving me the runaround. You get what you pay for. Cheap insurance means cheap service is what you will get. Please be aware……

After six years of being insured by them, I realized this company is scamming people out of their hard-earned money. When it comes to claims, they have ignorant customer service agents and adjusters causing harm to people's claims and ripping people off by denying any claim under made-up terms.

This company is, in fact, the worst company I've ever dealt with! From the first phone conversations, I've been treated terribly. I've spoken to three different people so far, and not one has been professional. Make sure you review your policy and screenshot every word of it; you will need it in court to prove you paid for whatever your policy states. My car was a total loss, and not only do they want to shortchange me on the settlement, but they also don't want to fulfill their end regarding the rental reimbursement that I paid for. They state it only covers if your car is repairable and in the shop being repaired. That is nonsensical! Thank goodness I am cautious and trust no one at any time, and I screenshot, download, and read everything, fine print and all, then I research. So it seems we will be going to court. They have caused me so much stress in such a short time dealing with them. I've had enough. They should be hearing from my attorney within a day or so - I have a case! So my advice for others is to drop them now and get other insurance. And if you are just searching, do not start a policy with these dishonest people.

This company is the worst; they are not truthful or honest. It's difficult to get hold of anyone, and when you do, they provide excuses without giving proper information. They owe our company a payment due to an incident involving one of their customers and us. Since November 27th, they have claimed the check has been issued and is on the way, yet as of December 20th, we have not received it. Their excuse is the "holiday season," even though we are receiving mail every day. It seems they are only interested in deceiving people into signing up with them. Be aware of this issue before you sign up.

Great affordable insurance, so thankful, and by far the cheapest - for this, I give three stars. For customer service, it has been a struggle. Very unprofessional, rude, and they can never answer any questions I have in regards to my policy. After months of waiting, I tried again to add a third vehicle. Not to my surprise, I received the same customer service but continued because of the price. If you are financially stable, I would not recommend going with this company. However, if you are someone like me who needs the savings, prepare to figure it out on your own or tolerate their disrespectful communication.

I have been paying my insurance, and I was driving my vehicle when it had an electrical fire. Elephant Insurance said they would not cover it. They falsely claimed that my vehicle was garaged in a different state, which is false. I have requested all the required documents to understand why such a decision was taken, and they have refused to send them. The worst issue is that they don't have an address; they only use a P.O. box, so they are selective of the letters they receive. I have sent all documents to prove that my vehicle was garaged in my state. They are avoiding me. When I call, they keep sending me to different departments, all in an effort to evade the claim.

I do not recommend them at all. My son was involved in a hit-and-run, in which we tracked down the insured, and they had Elephant. So we filed the claim and were told we could work with any repair shop. However, several repair shops refused to work with them at all, even through me. So I went with one of their guaranteed shops, and although the repair shop did a great job, Elephant decided on their own, with only photos of my car, that more than half of the damages were due to a "prior accident," even though they hadn't even inspected or seen the insured's vehicle. Our car was in near-perfect condition before the accident, so this was absurd. The car was repaired anyway by the repair shop, and they said that all the damages were clearly from the same incident due to paint rubbing being consistent all the way from back to front. They submitted for revised additional damages of which Elephant claims they never received and are now refusing to pay the repair shop, which is just a small place. I got in contact with the insured, and they sent me photos of the damage to their car, and I proved with photographic evidence, including measurements, that all the damages lined up with the same accident for both vehicles. They are still refusing to pay the poor shop owner. Really disgraceful business practices to ignore irrefutable evidence and just insist, "it doesn't match up, must be from a prior accident," even though they made that determination before they even got any photos at all from the insured's car.

On 06/13/24 at 1:25 PM CST, I contacted Elephant Insurance to request the termination of my insurance policy in order to prevent any future renewals or charges. The representative advised me that I could cancel the policy by June 29, 2024. Accordingly, I emailed Elephant Insurance on June 19, 2024, to request the cancellation. Subsequently, on June 20, 2024, I spoke with an agent who assured me that the cancellation would be retroactively effective as of June 16, 2024. Nevertheless, Elephant Insurance debited $390 from my account, which I believe constitutes fraudulent behavior.

Worst insurance ever. Bad customer service. Takes forever to help you with your claim. Uses a third party to approve your claim and then recommends a junkyard part to fix the car. They charge you outrageous fees just to offer you the worst service. I will never recommend this insurance to anyone, even my worst enemies.

They are a good insurance company until you actually need them to be an insurance company. I joined 'the herd' in September 2020 because they were cheaper than everyone else. My first two renewals decreased, which made me very happy, and then each renewal significantly increased. By May 2024, my policy increased by $804, which is wild because I am a 43-year-old woman with ZERO claims, accidents, or tickets on my record. In December of 2022, my husband was hit by an aggressive driver while traveling to work. The police report indicated that he was found NOT AT FAULT, the claims specialist found him NOT AT FAULT, but six months later the person who caused the accident complained enough, and so they reversed their decision and pinned the accident on him. So much for protecting us, huh? The last straw was in January of 2024 when my son hit a deer. The claim was filed, and I had to walk the claims specialist through my policy to show him that we did, in fact, have rental coverage. The shop my son's car went to did a complete hack job, so bad that the car no longer ran correctly after each attempt to fix it correctly. The insurance basically washed their hands of the ordeal and no longer took our phone calls or returned emails.
My best advice I can give is to pay the extra money and get a company that will actually represent and protect you.

I want to let everyone know that Elephant Insurance is great and you can't beat their prices. I was afraid to switch because I always had an agent in my town to buy from, but I went with Elephant Insurance and I am very pleased. I have called their customer service, and I was surprised to see it was actually a person I could understand, and they were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable.

Elephant insurance is cheap for drivers who are able to apply multiple discounts to their policies, with savings ranging from 9% to 40%. The company also passes on savings that come from selling insurance directly to consumers online, which eliminates agent commissions. However, while Elephant offers affordable policy options, especially compared to other companies that specialize in high-risk car insurance, there are still other insurance companies with better prices and higher customer satisfaction. Studies done by several groups indicate that Elephant's prices are generally about average in the six states they serve— Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, Texas, Indiana, and Tennessee.
Elephant Insurance writes auto insurance only, but they offer other types of insurance through partnering companies. These include Homesite for home insurance and life insurance, and Dairyland for motorcycle insurance. Elephant offers a bundling discount of up to 9% if you buy multiple policies through them.
The company's list of discounts for auto insurance is pretty basic. Some discounts are better than those offered by competitors, while others are average. For example, Elephant's multi-car discount can be up to 39% in some locations, and getting your quote online earns you 15% off your premium. Discounts for good students, safety features, responsible drivers, and paying your premium upfront are run-of-the-mill.
Elephant's high number of complaints is a cause for concern, however. Elephant receives nearly three times the complaints of the average insurer, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Problems with filing claims and receiving claim payments get the most complaints. Elephant gets better marks for its quotes process and easy-to-navigate website.
If you live in one of Elephant Insurance's six states of operation, you might want to get an online quote for comparison. Just be aware that companies like GEICO (another direct-to-consumer company) have more discounts and higher customer satisfaction ratings. And their premiums may be similar.
Elephant Insurance is not owned by Allstate. Elephant Insurance is a subsidiary of Admiral Group plc, a U.K.-based financial services group that has owned Elephant Insurance since its founding in 2009.

Elephant Insurance offers roadside assistance to drivers in the eight states where it operates: Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Texas, Ohio and Georgia. The dispatch phone number for Elephant's 24/7 roadside assistance is 844-937-5353.

No, a car is not automatically totaled if the side airbags deploy because whether a car is totaled depends on the actual cost to repair the vehicle compared to how much the vehicle was worth. Insurance adjusters ultimately decide whether a car is worth repairing or a total loss depending on state laws and the specific damage.
When a Car With Deployed Side Airbags Is Considered Totaled
Elephant SR-22 insurance is for drivers considered “high risk” by their state due to a DUI conviction, driving without a license or insurance, or reckless driving, among others. “SR-22” is used interchangeably with “high risk” in the context of car insurance, but SR-22 is actually the name of a form high-risk drivers must file with the state proving they have car insurance.
Elephant Insurance will file the SR-22 documentation on your behalf but will...
Yes. Elephant Insurance has “full coverage” car insurance. Elephant offers collision coverage and comprehensive coverage, which customers can add to their liability insurance to form full coverage. Collision insurance pays to repair your car after hitting another car or object. Comprehensive insurance pays for damage resulting from events beyond your control happening to your car, such as theft, flooding, fire, or wild animal-related incidents.
The other main components of full coverage car insurance are...
No. Elephant Insurance does not have gap insurance. Elephant offers loan/lease payoff insurance instead. Elephant's loan/lease payoff coverage works pretty much the same way as gap insurance, covering the difference between what your car is worth at the time of a total loss and what is owed on the loan or lease. Specifically, Elephant loan/lease payoff insurance covers the remaining loan or lease balance after your comprehensive or collision insurance has paid the actual cash...
No. Elephant does not offer short-term car insurance. The shortest policy periods that Elephant offers for car insurance are six months, and they're currently available only in Texas and Virginia.
