I enrolled in two "deferred interest" promotional plans thinking they worked like separate installments — one payment per plan, clearly divided. That is NOT how it works. The bank splits your payment between plans however they choose, with no option to direct funds to the plan expiring soonest. By the time I realized this, my oldest plan had accumulated a significant amount of hidden interest — despite me paying more than the minimum every single month.
To make matters worse:
— There is no option online to direct payments to a specific plan.
— When I called to request this, the representative (after a 20-minute call) said he "didn't understand" what I was asking.
— The bank has a well-documented history of canceling automatic payments without notice, then charging late fees.
The fine print does disclose their payment allocation method, but it is buried and written in a way that most people will not understand until it is too late.
I was lucky enough to catch this in time and financially organized enough to manage the situation. But after reading other reviews, I can see that many people are already struggling financially — and this bank will only make it worse. If you are going through a hard time, the last thing you need is a bank working against you.
If you are considering this card, go in with eyes open: always calculate exactly how much you need to pay each month per plan to avoid deferred interest, and never assume your extra payments are protecting you from expiring plans. They are not.
Don't fall for it!!!
Pros:
• 5% back on fuel purchases - BUT it’s limited to $500 cash back, annually. Meaning you can only ever gain $500 in cash back in a single year.
• It’s a Visa credit card: accepted by most merchants.
Cons:
• Low cap of $500 in cash back per year.
• Terrible (nearly non-existant ) customer service. Rude and uneducated on their own credit card offerings.
• Faulty mobile app and website. On several occasions I logged into my account to pay my balance and my account didn’t show my transactions but showed I owed on my balance. I had no way to verify the transactions were accurate (and not fraudulent).
• The credit card is not managed on a platform owned by AAA. As of the date of this post, AAA outsources their card management to Comenity Financial, which is a company owned by yet another, separate (parent) company: Bread Financial. The customer service representatives for this card are not AAA representatives. They’re poorly trained, ill-mannered Comenity Financial call center representatives working “on behalf” of AAA.
**IF YOU CALL THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE PHONE NUMBER: Immediately ask to speak with a supervisor. You will be transferred to a somewhat more capable individual who has more knowledge about AAA.
• Zero communications from AAA or Comenity Financial. You will receive no updates, payment reminders, or courtesy communications regarding your AAA credit card account.
• A desperate financial institution, Comenity Financial will find any way they can to charge you credit card penalties and miscellaneous fees.
Summary:
• This card sounds like a legitimate, high quality credit card from a reputable company (AAA). Instead, what you get is a Visa credit card that sports AAA’s branding, managed by an incompetent financial company Comenity Financial, owned by Bread Financial.
If you’re smart, you’ll avoid this card.
so i am unable to use my rewards I earned. The best part is the bank account is the same one I made the new payments with! I haven't made a late payment on any cards I own. And have a high credit score. This card screams scam. Avoid at all cost even if you have an perfect credit score.
I was waiting for a statement to make my first payment as they did not email me or send me anything online.
The first piece of mail that I ever received from them was a warning against my credit that I had not paid their bill. I called them back, explained that I never received a statement, and made two payments as well as scheduled two more payments to make up for the last time.
They had charged me two late fees and reversed one. They would not reverse the other. I explained that it was their fault, I’ve never missed a single payment and I’ve always been clear with Comenity.
They claimed that they were Comenity (which is bogus, it’s just a partnership - they’re not even on the app) and that it was not their fault that it was the Postal Service’s fault.
Horrible customer service. Go with any other lender but this one.
My wife opened a credit card through Sephora and made a purchase of about $65. We never received any billing statement. Later, the bank added a $40 late fee.
I contacted customer service, and they agreed to waive $25 of the fee. I then paid the original balance plus the remaining $25 late fee. This issue occurred in November, and we believed it was resolved.
However, in March, we received another call from customer service demanding around $200. They claimed that the original payment was one day late and continued adding additional late fees.
Now, the customer service representatives are threatening legal action, which feels unreasonable given the situation. We made a good-faith effort to resolve the issue and paid what we were told was owed.
This situation feels unfair and needs to be reviewed.
No interest for 6 months was not true. My bill was for 2060$ si first payment I did was for 60$ then my second payment I was billed for $2059 so they did charge interest and only 3 dollars to the principal so I paid off and canceled
Part of the purchase was made on a citibank card and they refunded immediately.
Stay away from these thieves.
I do not have kids but I was making a purchase for a friends baby shower. I decided to open the card to save 30% at the store. That’s how they reel you in and then charge you 10x more for what you bought. I then got my statement in the mail, paid it, and then all of a sudden I get another statement the next month, charging me $3 interest on a zero balance! I didn’t realize it because I THOUGHT i paid the card off, so I missed the payment, resulting in a late charge of $38.99! I didn’t even want to deal with it so I just paid it. Then this month I get another $3.00 on my zero balance!! I just paid it and immediately closed my account. I have now paid twice the amount of the original purchase! The APR Is also 35.99! The way this credit card is handled is absolutely atrocious. Ive used comenity many times and have never had this problem. I highly DO NOT recommend opening a children’s place credit card. Completely nightmare scam.
