Chase Sapphire Reserve Rewards
Chase Sapphire Reserve offers a ton of rewards, starting you out with an initial bonus of 125,000 points for spending $6,000 in the first 3 months. That’s one of the biggest bonuses on the market.
Then, the card’s ongoing rewards are 8 points per $1 spent on purchases made through Chase Travel℠ (including The Edit℠), 4 points per $1 on direct bookings with airlines and hotels, 3 points per $1 on dining, and 1 point per $1 on all other purchases. But that’s not where the perks stop with the card’s rewards.
Other Rewards-Related Benefits
- There is no limit to the number of points you can earn, and points never expire as long as your account remains in good standing.
- You can transfer your points at a 1:1 ratio to various airline and hotel loyalty program partners, such as Marriott, Hyatt, JetBlue and Southwest.
- You can get anywhere from 1 to 15 bonus points per $1 spent when you use your card at more than 450 popular retailers through Shop With Chase.
- The Pay With Points feature allows you to use your points to make purchases from Amazon and Apple.
- There’s a referral bonus of 15,000 points per referral, with a limit of 100,000 points per year. To get this bonus, someone you refer to the card must apply and get approved.
Chase Sapphire Reserve Travel Benefits
Since Chase Sapphire Reserve is a travel rewards card, and an expensive, top-tier one at that, it naturally comes with a whole host of travel related benefits. They include:
Annual Travel Credit
Chase will reimburse the first $300 you spend on travel purchases every year. You won’t earn points on this $300, but since you’re getting 100% of it back, that’s a much better deal. Plus, that basically offsets a big chunk of the $795 annual fee by itself!
No Blackout Dates or Seat Restrictions
If you book using your card or points through Chase Travel, you won’t encounter any restrictions.
No Foreign Transaction Fee
It won’t cost you extra to use your Chase Sapphire Reserve abroad or when buying things from foreign merchants.
Roadside Assistance
If you have car trouble, your card covers you for the following things:
- Towing
- Battery assistance
- Change of tires
- Locksmith
- Gas delivery
- Standard winching
Worldwide Travel Assistance
This 24/7 Chase line can help you with booking travel, modifying reservations, or getting referrals for things like medical or legal services while you’re traveling. However, you will be responsible for the cost of any goods or services purchased.
Chase Sapphire Reserve Travel Insurance Benefits
Chase Sapphire Reserve is one of the best credit cards for travel insurance benefits, according to WalletHub’s Travel Insurance Study. It offers a wide variety of coverage, with high limits.

Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance
If something out of your control, like sickness or severe weather, causes your trip to be canceled or cut short, you can get reimbursed up to $10,000 per traveler and $20,000 per trip. You must pay for your trip with your card to get the coverage, which applies to pre-paid, nonrefundable travel expenses.
Trip Delay Reimbursement
If your trip gets delayed for more than six hours by the travel provider, or if the delay forces you to book an overnight stay, you can get reimbursed up to $500 per traveler per trip to cover expenses you wouldn’t have otherwise incurred, like food and lodging.
Travel Accident Insurance
This is the most valuable insurance benefit that Chase Sapphire Reserve offers. If you book a trip with your card, you are covered up to $1,000,000 for accidental death or dismemberment caused by the travel provider. The exact coverage amount will depend on the nature of the injury or death.
Baggage Delay Insurance
If your baggage is delayed for six hours or more, you can get reimbursed up to $100 per day, for a maximum of five days. In other words, if your bag unfortunately gets lost, you can’t claim insurance forever, only for the first five days. This reimbursement is meant to cover essential purchases you’re forced to make without your luggage, like clothing and toiletries.
Emergency Evacuation and Transportation
If you get sick or injured while traveling more than 100 miles away from home, you can receive up to $100,000 in coverage for emergency transportation back home. That includes any necessary medical treatment on the way.
Emergency Medical and Dental Coverage
This benefit covers up to $2,500 per traveler per trip for emergency medical or dental treatment away from home. It also provides up to $75 per day for up to five days to reimburse hotel expenses. You will have to pay a $50 deductible to use this coverage.
Auto Rental Coverage
When you rent a car using this card, you receive up to $75,000 in collision damage and theft coverage for most rental vehicles in the U.S. and abroad. To receive this coverage, you must decline any insurance offered by the rental company. Certain types of vehicles aren’t covered.
Chase Sapphire Reserve is the best credit card on the market for this benefit, according to WalletHub’s Rental Car Insurance Study.
For full coverage details, you can refer to the Guide to Benefits provided after account opening, or call the number on the back of your card for assistance.

When you buy things with your card, you’re covered against damage and theft to those items.
This benefit covers your new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft up to $10,000 per item and $50,000 per year.
Many types of items aren’t covered, like animals and plants, antiques, motor vehicles, computer software, and more. But that’s standard for purchase protection.
Chase Sapphire Reserve is the best credit card on the market for purchase protection, according to WalletHub’s Purchase Protection Study.
Return Protection
When a merchant won’t accept a return for a like-new, working item that you purchased with your card, you can get reimbursed up to $500 per item and $1,000 per 12-month period. This benefit is valid for returns you tried to make within 90 days of the date of purchase.
Several types of items, like medical equipment, jewelry, formal attire, vehicles and more, are not covered. Nevertheless, Chase Sapphire Reserve is the best credit card on the market for return protection.
Extended Warranty Protection
When you buy something with your card, this benefit extends the time period of the manufacturer's U.S. warranty by up to one year, on eligible warranties of three years or less (up to four years from the date of purchase). The coverage amount is up to $10,000 per item and $50,000 per account.
As with all purchase-related benefits, certain types of purchases are not eligible for coverage.
Chase Sapphire Reserve ties for the 12th-best credit card in WalletHub’s Extended Warranty Study.
Fraud Protection and Fraud Alerts
Chase monitors your account to detect and stop fraudulent purchases, and it will notify you when any unusual charges appear on your card.
