“CBNA” is a credit report code that stands for Citibank North America. If you see CBNA on your credit report, it’s probably because you have a credit card or loan with Citibank or you applied for one recently.
If CBNA showed up on your credit report out of the blue, check out WalletHub’s guide on how to handle an unauthorized credit inquiry. You’ll see the steps you need to take to make sure fraudulent accounts don’t show up on your credit report and how to file a dispute with the credit bureaus.
What Is Citibank North America?
Citibank North America, or Citi, is the third largest credit card issuer in the U.S. and offers some of the most popular cards on the market. They include Citi Double Cash, Citi Simplicity and co-branded cards from the likes of Best Buy and The Home Depot.
If you have one of Citi’s co-branded cards, you might actually see “CBNA” prefixed by a code for the associated retailer. For example, “BBY/” stands for Best Buy and “THD/” means The Home Depot.
That said, there’s probably no need to worry about fraud related to seeing “CBNA” on your credit report if you have a Citibank credit card or you recently applied for one. But you can always use the issuer’s contact information listed on your credit report to confirm the record.
Other Companies That Go By CBNA
Community Bank, N.A.: A bank with locations in Upstate New York, Northeastern Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Western Massachusetts that offers loans and credit cards.
Comenity Bank: This bank manages credit card accounts for many retail stores and businesses, such as Ross, AAA, and PlayStation. Note, Comenity Bank’s parent company is now called Bread Financial.
Chain Bridge Bancorp, Inc.: A Delaware-chartered bank holding company that publicly trades as CBNA.
Credit Bureau of North America, LLC: A collection agency based in Dickson, Tennessee that does not appear to be active anymore.
These other companies could come up in content you read online, but CBNA on your credit report will only stand for Citibank North America. If you have reason to believe there’s a collection agency coming after you, you’ll want to check your credit report for corresponding records and contact the collector to gather some information.

That's just Citi, or Citibank North America. There are so many places their names have to fit, so they make up these abbreviations.

More than likely based on the Citi in the name it is a Citibank card of some kind if you have never had a citi bank card it is probably a store card of some kind as those appear by bank name usually not the store name.

I don't recognize this account. I have had my phone hacked. And I need to find out who opened this account. It seems like the address was not right. And I need to find out how much was charged?

Why would CBNA do a hard inquiry on my credit every other month? They inquired in April 21, June 21 and Aug 21. I do have accounts with Citi, but why pull every other month? Does anyone know how to stop it?
