“CBNA” is a credit report code that stands for Citibank North America. It is used to indicate the source of a credit inquiry or account listed on your credit report.
Citi is the fourth largest credit card issuer in the U.S. and offers some of the most popular cards on the market. They include Citi Double Cash, Citi Simplicity and co-branded cards from the likes of Best Buy and The Home Depot. If you have one of Citi’s co-branded cards, you might actually see “CBNA” prefixed by a code for the associated retailer. For example, “BBY/” stands for Best Buy and “THD/” means The Home Depot.
So there’s probably no need to worry about fraud if you have a Citibank credit card or you recently applied for one. But you can always use the issuer’s contact information listed on your credit report to confirm the record. You can check out this article with 4 steps to take if you don’t recognize a particular item on your credit report.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning the other possible definitions for “CBNA.” It could also stand for:
-
Credit Bureau of North America, LLC (in reference to a collection agency based in Dickson, Tenn.);
-
Comenity Bank (with “North America” mistakenly slapped on the end).
These alternate definitions won’t be used on your credit report. If you see “CBNA” there, it means Citibank. They could come up in content you read online, though. The last two are nothing to worry about. But if you have reason to believe there’s a collection agency coming after you, you’ll want to check your credit report for corresponding records and contact the collector to gather some information.

That's just Citi, or Citibank North America. There are so many places their names have to fit, so they make up these abbreviations.

More than likely based on the Citi in the name it is a Citibank card of some kind if you have never had a citi bank card it is probably a store card of some kind as those appear by bank name usually not the store name.

I don't recognize this account. I have had my phone hacked. And I need to find out who opened this account. It seems like the address was not right. And I need to find out how much was charged?
Did we answer your question?
Why would CBNA do a hard inquiry on my credit every other month? They inquired in April 21, June 21 and Aug 21. I do have accounts with Citi, but why pull every other month? Does anyone know how to stop it?
