These loans are only available to people with an existing Citibank account (checking, savings, money market or CD). In addition, personal loans from Citi are a bit harder to get than average, as the minimum credit score required is 740+, compared to 660 for many competing lenders.

I had a Citi/American Airlines credit card for a number of years. I canceled it about a year ago because of the poor customer service and my preference for flying United. I recently saw or received an offer for a different Citi/AA card with lots of miles as a bonus. I didn't read the details closely, but I assumed that if I didn't qualify because of my semi-recent cancellation, they would not process the application. Well, I didn't qualify, but they reopened my old account and sent me a duplicate of my old card with a new number, but no new bonus miles. I canceled the card immediately.

Received the card and tried to activate it. The process to get the card activated took 50 minutes, including being transferred multiple times between the activation department and the fraud department.
20 days later, logged in to the online account only to find it is still blocked due to a "High Fraud Alert." During the first phone call to resolve the issue, the customer service representative said they had to call my phone. The call ended, and they never called back to confirm the phone was actually mine.
Called back and a new person said they cleared multiple fraud settings from my account, yet when I logged in, it still showed the "High Fraud Alert." They then transferred me to the IT department.
The IT person did seem to have a clue. They cleared the user login and requested I create a brand new one. That was indeed the final fix to clear the "High Fraud Alert" from their systems. This ended call number 2 for the day. These 2 calls combined took 40 minutes, in addition to the initial call to try and activate the card which took 50 minutes. So, to activate the card and be able to log in cleanly took a total of an hour and a half of my time.
In summary, either their systems are totally inadequate, or their training for customer service representatives is exceedingly deficient.
Either way, I cannot recommend strongly enough to never choose to get a CITI credit card.

Reduced credit limit without cause. I have never been late paying more than my minimum payment every single month. I have never been late paying any credit card or loan I have ever had, as clearly seen on my credit report, which shows an excellent payment history. I have had steady employment for more than 25 years and alone make six figures without adding my husband's income. I have investments, savings, and significant home equity. Citi damaged my credit score, yet I have been an excellent customer. I am actively looking to transfer my balance to avoid doing business with this company.

Citi customer support is worst I have experienced so far. No person to support available at all for specific issues; voice recorded options are of no use—hardly few options, nothing else. It's completely useless to call or text.

If I could give zero, I would. I opened this bank account and deposited a significant amount of money, not merely $25. Then, when I attempted to send money to a family member, my entire account was locked down. I'm saying that I can't access anything, and customer service is terrible—they can't explain why this is happening. They tell me I need to wait for a letter to verify why it's not working. I told them I don't have 10 business days; I have bills to pay now. It didn't take 10 business days to deposit my money. I received two letters in the mail with two different card numbers, and the next day, I received two different bank cards. It's just a mess, and I don't recommend anyone use their banking services. As soon as they release my funds, I'll close the account because it's unacceptable.

"I would give a -1, not even a 0, for their so-called wonderful customer service. It's pathetic! I became a ping-pong ball between Best Buy Geek Squad Membership Services and Best Buy Credit Card Service. They are extremely inefficient.
It was an extremely painful experience dealing with the Customer Service of Best Buy Credit Card Services. Surprise #1: They failed to communicate to the customer that his promotional period for the monthly payment plan was ending, and then they automatically applied interest from that point, which was a total surprise. We had a difficult time talking to the customer representative to finally make the remaining balance in full payment. Surprise #2: Despite my instructions to the customer service to close my Geek Squad membership upon the full payment of my purchases, it was somehow overlooked, and the membership was continued without my consent. We eventually received a debt collection notice due to the outstanding membership fee, with a late payment fee added on. Frustration: It's impossible to reach the customer representative on the provided number. It directs to a speech-enabled system, and it is extremely difficult to get an actual person to speak with from this customer service number. Overall: It was a terrible experience with any purchase that involves a plan and automated renewal of membership. I ended up paying an amount that I did not owe to them! To me, this team is utterly disrespectful to customers.
This is a lawless bank blatantly violating federal law. We have a large credit in the credit card account, which the bank must refund within 7 business days after a customer request. They are stonewalling and trying to mislead about timing and the law. Their so-called Executive Response Team is a sham, doing absolutely nothing.

The worst customer service I've ever dealt with. I have a pending dispute that should have been resolved a long time ago. They have had all the information they needed to resolve this. And they keep requesting more bogus information about the dispute. Citibank also submitted a past due amount on my credit report, even though it was in dispute. I've contacted the disputes department and customer service seven times with no resolution. I also contacted Citigold Investing, where I have money, and received no response from them either.

Citi Bank has chosen profit over customer service! I decided to transition from a no-fee credit card to one with a $95 annual fee. They charged me a $95 fee for an AAdvantage Miles Up Credit Card that I never applied for, nor have I received, and I have not received the no annual fee credit card either. I spent over an hour speaking to Coco, Gladis, and Jan in the Philippines Citi Customer Service, which was a total mess. I asked for the Citi Customer Service phone number in the US, and they gave me the Citi Gold phone number!

Citibank is absolutely unsatisfactory. We opened a card and did a balance transfer under the impression that it was zero interest. We then used it for other purchases and got charged interest. When we called to inquire, we learned it was no interest only on the balance transfer, which was fine. We paid the amount down to the balance transfer. However, the next month we were charged interest again. After another call, we discovered that only a portion of the payment was applied to the current amount, with the rest going to the balance transfer. We paid the entire balance in August, but lo and behold, we were charged interest yet again. This company is so terrible and deceitful; I would never recommend using them as they are absolutely unsatisfactory.

I've been a cardholder since 2003 and as a veteran, I appreciate the 10% discount. I also like the $299 6-month plan I currently have, although I recently received an email statement stating that I was late on my monthly payment. I had a terrible time trying to log in and tried to reset my password, but it kept telling me the passwords didn't match. So I went to the top of the page and clicked on 'make payment.' Oddly, I had no trouble making a payment. Therefore, I guess I'll continue this way without logging into my account. In summary, you have no problem with someone making a payment, but logging in to see your statement is a different story.
We had a dispute and provided proof that the transaction was canceled on the hotel's end. Hilton could not provide the one-bedroom suite because they gave our room to a Diamond member. Citi requested documentation in PDF form, which we provided immediately. Now they are saying that time ran out and we owe money for a hotel room Hilton couldn't provide.

The worst card experience in my wallet: Within an hour of receiving the card in the mail, I activated it through the app and was prompted to add it to Apple Wallet. Great! Nope. "Please call us." 18 minutes on hold. Transfer. 12 minutes on hold. 2 minutes on hold. Can only verify identity if I already have another Citi account, so instead I have to wait 10 days for a USPS paper letter with a code to call back. Meanwhile? Card locked. Useless. Every other card in my wallet, including those from tiny local banks and major national cards, was added to Wallet in seconds. I'll never use a Citi product again.
