Today I made the decision I had enough.
Social Street in Woonsocket.
I have been a customer of Bank of America for over 30 years, and this was by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had. It took an entire week just to add a person to the account, and then only another 10 minutes to process a wire transfer.
On my first visit to complete a wire transfer from our business account, I found out that even though I originally opened the account with our LLC documentation, I was never actually added to the account. I was told I needed corporate documents and minutes, and that both account holders had to be present at the same time. I went home and spent significant time preparing all of the requested paperwork.
I returned the next day, waited 1 hour and 40 minutes, and asked if they could at least begin the process so my wife could come in later during a break to sign. They refused. I then visited another branch and was told the same thing.
The following day, I returned to the bank again with all the paperwork and explained that my wife would be coming in shortly to complete the process. When she arrived, we were told it would take at least 40 minutes to complete the paperwork and that we would have to wait. After waiting an hour just to see a customer service representative, my wife no longer had another 40 minutes available, so we asked them to at least process the wire transfer, which they then completed incorrectly.
The next morning, I arrived early and was told they had no time and would not even begin the process unless both my wife and I were present from the start.
When I told the branch manager I was considering moving my business elsewhere, the response was essentially, “we can prepare a cashier’s check so you can take your money out.” That was shockingly dismissive for a loyal customer of more than 30 years. I have seen this same comment mentioned in other reviews, which only reinforces the impression that Bank of America does not care about retaining long-term customers.
Ironically, when we finally returned again together at noon and waited about 30 minutes, the entire process took only about 20 minutes, and none of the paperwork they originally told me to prepare was even required.
Very disappointed by the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and complete disregard for customer time.
The only redeeming factor is the 3% cash back for online shopping. Its s toss up if you will actually get your 3% because BofA only considers their hosts and advertising partners for online shopping 3% rewards, not every vendor that’s out there offering online shopping.
Guns and Ammo afficinados please note the 5723 MCC if such things matter to you. I don’t have a problem with this since none of my purchases would fall under that Code.
The reason i got this card was to put a $2000 attorneys fee on. By doing so I got my $200 Bonus plus $20 cash back which effectively gave me a $220 discount on the attorneys fee. This is the sole noteworthy thing this card has done for me.
The Shopping Offers give less than what my Capitalone, Citi, US Bank, and Wells F gives for Merchant Offers. My Visa Signature level cards and my MC World Elite Status cards are my go-to for perks, Ive never checked out any BofA perks.
I reported my card as lost or stolen last month and Im still waiting long past the 7-10 business days claim they all use. Im not missing out on using this supposedly lost or stolen card however.
Its actually churn and burn time for this card. I chose the USB Cash+ card as its stand in. I will make my termination close out phone call tomorrow.
Im not saying this is a bad card or anything. They fit well in some people’s wallet but make a weak addition to a cash back fanatics overall game plan. They give healthy spending limits starting out.
We chose BofA for our mortgage because they told us we were preapproved, sent preapproval letters for whatever amount we asked for, and promised to match the best rate from another lender. At first, they were responsive and easy to work with.
Once we went under contract, everything changed. We found out they had only pulled our credit and had never actually verified our income or debts. They then backed out of their rate-match promise, kept changing the terms, and repeatedly asked for the same documents. They even coded our investment accounts as debts, which created confusion and caused delays.
Communication was awful. Getting anyone to respond was nearly impossible.
In the end, we were denied, had to cancel our home purchase, and had to fight to get our escrow money back. This was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience. I would not recommend Bank of America for a mortgage.
